EPISODE 013 - The Auralnauts, comedic musical film makers

We have a lot of fun doing this show and talking to new people.  But sometimes, we REALLY have fun when we chat without guests!  It will feel less like an interview, and more like it's just a conversation with old friends, even though we've just met these people.  That's the power of Star Wars fandom.

Our show this week is with Zak and Craven from The Auralnauts, and man-oh-man, did we have a good time talking with these guys!  So much so, that we went a little long.  But, we think it's worth the listen because it's it was a lot of laughs.

The Auralnauts are like graffiti artists, defacing other peoples work with their own dialog, music and editing skills, rather then paint.  The Auralnauts' video "Star Wars Minus Williams" went viral last month, and garnered over 2.5 million YouTube hits in just that time.  But this isn't their only work in the Star Wars Universe.

We sit down to talk the guys about their own Star Wars fandom, the way they work, and what's next for them.  We also subject them to the Mind Probe, and during the Trench Run, we ask them to rewrite some other Star Wars themed videos from YouTube to see if they can can make them funnier!

Because our conversation with Zak and Craven ran long, we kept the rest of the show brief.  We still try to rush through the weeks news and give you one last reminder about this months Jason's Jawa Giveaway (Utini!), but that's about it.  We hope you enjoy the show none the less.

EPISODE 012 - Jerac, master Lego builder

We talked about it last week, and because you demanded it, we are bring our "lost episode" out of the vault!

Back in June, at the end of my "beta period", when I was still testing the podcasting waters, before Jason joined the show and we started getting serious about this project, I spoke with Jerac, a master Lego builder from Poland.  Last summer, Jerac was getting a great deal of attention for the giant sized Star Destroyer he had built from scratch.  His model is amazing! It looks as good an anything used in the films.  From a distance, you cant tell that it is made of Lego bricks!

Anyway, I never used my interview with Jerac, because quite honestly, we spoke very little about Star Wars.  Instead, we talked in length about Lego.  Since the name of the show isn't The Expanded Legoverse, I put this conversation aside for another day.  (I also lost the file for a while too, but that's a story for another day.)

Well, Jason and I have mentioned this conversation with Jerac before, and after we spoke about it last week, we knew we needed to get it out there!  So, here it is!  - But since this is an older interview, there is no Mind Probe, and there is no Trench Run.  But fear not, these fan-favorite segments will be back next week!

But, Legos are not the only thing we talk about this week.  We speed through the news of the week were we ponder why Star Wars fans get so angry sometimes, we talk about the treasures Jason found in his basement that he forgot he had, and I announce my "promotion" within my local 501st Garrison.  And, we add a new feature to the show, the Etsy find of the week.  Just a note: I make a PG-13 joke in this segment that will go over the heads of the kids, but isn't our normal sort of thing.  Sorry if I crossed a line there, it wont happen again, but I just wanted to warn you.  (sure, I could have edited it out, but, sometimes you have to live dangerously!)

We also have decided to extend the latest Jason's Jawa Giveaway (Utini!) through the end of the month.  You can still quality for the gift back of Rebels goodies from San Diego Comic Con.  All you need to do is call us at 205-383-3663, send us an email at TheExpandedFandomverse@gmail.com, or post on our Facebook page to get your name into the drawing!

EPISODE 011 - Eric Geller, from TheForce.net & TheForceCast

Our guest this week is Mr. Eric Geller, contributor to TheForce.net and co-host of The Force Cast podcast.

Recently, Eric wrote an article about the online movement to save the Expanded Universe, entitled "Anger Leads To Hate: Inside The Movement To Save The Expanded Universe".  This small but vocal subsection to Star Wars fandom has taken to Facebook and Twitter to make their disgruntled voices heard.  Their goal is to have the EU, or Legends as it is now known, continue; to have it live alongside the new canon, as a separate Star Wars universe.

Here on the Expanded Universe, we've talked about this topic from time to time, but never in depth. (Though,  for the record, the last episode in our "beta period" was with Timothy Moore and Dan Wilcox, two active members of this movement.)  Well, after I read Eric's article, and saw that it had gone viral, I knew we had to have him on the show.  And boy, am I glad we did!  We had an interesting conversation.  I've listened to it twice already, and I got new things out of it each time.  --- Do yourself a favor and read Eric's article before listening to the show!  It can be found HERE.

Besides our talk with Eric, this week we cover the news coming out of the New York ComicCon, we remind you that you only have a few days left to win the latest Jason's Jawa Giveaway (Utinni!), and we briefly tell you about the long road we had to travel to get this weeks episode out!

Also, don't forget, we need your input.  I need to know what my "punishment" should be for losing last weeks trivia challenge!  Email us, call us, or leave a comment on our site or any of our social media outlets!

We're going to leave it up to you to decided just what price the loser of our contest must pay!  Let us know what punishment you think must be inflicted on one of us.

EPISODE 010 - Erin Neidigh, Star Wars trivia book author

Thanks for your patience once again. And welcome back to our TENTH EPISODE!!!

Our guest this week is Erin Neidigh, the author of "5,100 Question Mega-Ultimate Star Wars Quiz Book".  This is the largest Star Wars trivia book I have in my collection.  Pick it up today, and you will have hours and hours and hours of Star Wars Trivia fun! - http://www.amazon.com/100-Question-Mega-Ultimate-Star-Wars-Quiz/dp/1480908940

Erin was a great guest. She turned the tables on Jason and I this week.  Instead of our regular "Trench Run" where Jason and I quiz the guest, this time around our guest quizzed us!  It just didn't seem right you ask trivia questions of a trivia author, so we became the quizzies instead of the quizzers!

And speaking of the "Trench Run", to make things more interesting, Jason and I decided to place a little wager on it's outcome.  Whomever lost would be required to carry out the "punishment" selected by our listeners and Erin.  So, what do you think the loser needs to do?  Let us know!  Leave a comment, email us at TheExpandedFandomverse@gmail.com, or call our hotline at 205-383-3663.  All we ask is that you keep it "family friendly".

This week we also start another round of Jason's Jawa Giveaway (Utinni!).  This time Jason is giving away a Star Wars Rebels poster and collection of pins from this years Hasbro booth at the San Diego Comic-Con!  To win, all you need to do is call our hotline at 205-383-3663 and leave us your mini-review of Star Wars Rebels!  One winner will be randomly selected from all participants.  And, we will be using the best reviews on the show!  You have until midnight October 19th to enter, so call today!

Also, I need to apologize, Dan White isnt with us to chew the power cables again this week, due to scheduling problems.  I know, I know... Dan is the best part of the show!  But have no fear, we will do all that we can to have Dan back again next week.

So, ten episodes down!  Now what?  Well, to keep things interesting, we may make a few subtle changes.  I hate when we publish an episode late.  From this point forth, I'm going to release the show on Wednesday, just to give myself a little breathing room.  Thirty percent of the time so far I've needed the extra day, so…  Also, every ten episodes we will be changing the Mind Probe questions.  You'll still learn a bit more about our guests as Star Wars fans, but now with some new questions.  And finally, you may hear a commercial or two along the way now.  Sorry, we have to.  We're not looking to make big money, we just want to the show to pay for itself.

Thanks for listening for the past ten episodes.  Please stick around for the next ten!

PLACE YOUR BETS!

We need your help!

Each week we like to play a little game with our guests.  Half the time it is a trivia based game.  Our guest this week is going to be Erin Neidigh, author of the new book "5,100 Question Mega-Ultimate Star Wars Quiz Book".  (Click the link to purchase the book!)

Well, it didn't feel right to try and stump the author of such an awesome trivia book with more trivia.  So this week, we are turning things around.  We have asked Erin to quiz US with some of her finest trivia questions!  Ten questions, starting easy, and then getting herder and harder.  We've left it up to Erin as to how this quiz is going to be run.

BUT, to make things more interesting, Jason and I are going to place a friendly wager on the outcome of the trivia contest.  However, we're not sure what the wager should entail.  So, we are going to leave that up to you!

Please call our hotline (205-383-3663), send us email (TheExpandedFandomverse@gmail.com) or leave a comment on this post to tell us what we should do!  ---Please keep it family friendly folks, that's all we ask.

If we select your idea, we will immortalize you on the show!  Somehow.  I don't know, we'll figure that bit our later.  ;-)

So, there you go.  What do you think the two of us should lay on the line for this, the Mega-Ultimate Star Wars Trivia Challenge?
